The Builder's Blueprint
The moves that turn "I need a change" into "here's the one thing I'll build." You don't need a new idea. You need to find the one already hiding in what you know, what you've done, what you're good at, what you've suffered — and what you've won. Work it slowly, out loud, and be honest before you filter for "marketable."
K
Knowledge — what you know deeply
"What do you know deeply — from school, from a job, or just from your own obsessive curiosity? Don't filter for 'marketable' yet. Just true."
E
Experience — what you've actually done
"Walk through the jobs, projects, and seasons that shaped you. Not a résumé — the real version, including the ones that felt like detours at the time."
S
Skills — what you're genuinely good at
"What do people actually come to you for help with? What do you do that looks easy to you and hard to everyone else?"
P
Pains — the first letter the market drops
"Two questions, both important. What frustrates you, in your own life or work, that you wish someone would just fix? And — don't skip this, it's usually the richest — who have you already helped with a real problem, and what exactly did you solve for them?"
Your own pains
Pains you've already solved for others — the overlooked goldmine (name a specific person + a specific problem)
V
Victories — the letter the market also drops
"Now the wins. What have you actually pulled off — a result you produced, a problem you beat, a number you moved, something people came to you because you'd already done it? Don't be modest; be specific."
Wins you've booked (the result + how you got it)
Wins others would pay to repeat (who wants that outcome — and why you're living proof it's possible)
06
The opportunity-finding pass
Root-cause each pain. For every pain above, ask "why does this actually happen?" two or three times past the first answer. The first answer is almost always a symptom; the real opportunity usually sits one or two layers under it.
Example: "people don't stick to a budget" → why → "the tools are built for accountants, not for people who feel shame about money" → why → "nobody built the emotional on-ramp, only the spreadsheet." The opportunity lives in that third layer.
Then flip it — mine each Victory. A win you've already booked is a product waiting to be packaged. For each one ask: who else wants that exact outcome, and would they pay you to hand it to them? Your scars and your wins are raw material.
Cross each root-caused pain against your K / E / S — mark the overlap ( · / ·· / ··· )
| Root-caused pain | Knowledge | Experience | Skills |
| Pain 1 | | | |
| Pain 2 | | | |
| Pain 3 | | | |
Reality-check. For your strongest 2–4 crossings, ask out loud: has anyone, anywhere, ever paid money to solve a version of this pain — even a clumsy or expensive version? A pain people already pay to fix (badly) beats one nobody has ever spent a dollar on.
07
Your output — 1–3 options + 3 actions
Fill one block per surviving option. Never force a third if only one is genuinely strong — and never stop at zero. The whole point is to find at least one.
Option — working title
The pain it solves (root-caused, not the surface symptom)
Who for (a specific person or segment — not "everyone who struggles with X")
Why you are credible to offer it (tie back to your K/E/S/P above)
Rough shape (product / service / hybrid · who buys · rough price)
Option — working title
The pain it solves
Who for
Why you are credible
Rough shape
Which one first? You choose — focus is the whole game. This is your ONE goal. Then write three small, checkable actions to take this week — not "keep thinking about it."
3 actions this week
You just found the one thing. Now build it.
